Quantum Information Science Innovation Center Creates a Video Wall Using AVoIP Technology

Griffiss Air Force Research Lab engaged Critical Path Integrators (CPI) to address the audiovisual design/build needs of a new, $12 million computer lab appointed as The Quantum Information Science Innovation Center, also known as The Innovare Advancement Center to support national defense for the Air Force and Space Force.

Quantum computing is widely-regarded as the future of computing technology, allowing researchers to utilize quantum information processing to make advances in computing technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning.

The Challenge

The AV integrations had to meet the research center's precise standards for performance, had to be flexible and dependable, and needed to support the lab’s technology-enabled computing research. The system controls needed to be intuitive and allow secure access. To support the goals of the computing lab, the video wall needed to deliver exceptional video quality, intuitive system control, and remote management. The design team specified that the installation was required to give a seamless performance and system control.

Our Solution

This scope of work included three main spaces – the Extreme Programming Workstation and two collaboration spaces. We designed and built a connected video wall for the Extreme Programming Workstation which included six 65” Samsung displays with Kramer HDbaseT transmitters and receivers which extends the video signal from the work station to the collaboration wall. The collaboration spaces also included displays and collaboration conferencing technology.

The video wall presentation was built using Kramer Encoders and decoders. Two Sources were available for viewing: a podium input plate to allow for guest HDMI connection and a NUC-style PC housed in the rack behind the wall. Bluetooth technology was used for the keyboard and mouse. A media player was also added to the controls so that the groups logo would be present on the wall when nothing was being presented.
